This year’s National Alpaca Show was a standout moment for Grainmarket Alpacas, with several strong results across our herd. But the real star of the weekend, even though he was tucked up in his shelter at the farm in the New Forest, was Rudi, one of our promising young males who impressed the judges despite his age
Strong Results Across the Next Generation
He secured second place in the Sire’s Progeny category, with three of his offspring representing him in the ring. Little Lillian achieved third place in the Junior Brown Suri category, Bertie also placed third, and Michele took second in the Junior Black Suri category. Michele then went on to be crowned reserve champion overall of the age groups.
What the Judges Looked For
Judges noted:
- excellent alpaca conformation
- impressive fleece density and structure
- natural brightness and softness
For such young alpacas to perform so well is a testament to the strength of our alpaca genetics and our commitment to responsible alpaca breeding here in the UK.
Rudi represents the future of our herd, and we’re excited to see how he continues to develop as a potential stud male for high-quality alpaca breeding programmes in the years ahead.
